Mìos nan Gàidheal | Gaelic Nova Scotia Month

May is Mìos nan Gàidheal |Gaelic Nova Scotia Month in Nova Scotia which is a time to celebrate and create awareness of the history, culture, language, contributions, and achievements of Gaels across the province.

The Gaelic Nova Scotia Month committee has decided that the ‘catch  phrase’ this year will be “Ciamar a tha sibh?”/ “How are you?”. Because we have spent so long apart, we hope this phrase will bring us together as it is often the first thing you say when greeting someone in Gaelic. “Ciamar a tha sibh” may be one of the only Gaelic phrases that people are familiar with, so we’re are encouraging people to use it as much as possible for the month of May as well as encouraging them to try to learn other words or phrases throughout the month to further their appreciation and understanding of Gaelic and our Gaelic culture.
